3 Skills of a Window and Door Dealer

The following skills are arguably the 3 essentials to being a successful window and door dealer.

1. Customer Service

As any retailer or organization may tell you, customer service is a must; so, what does quality customer service entail?

Patience plays a larger role in customer service than you may realize because it doesn’t necessarily pertain to having patience with an upset or the occasional rude customer. Patience also penetrates the customer service experience in terms of sales.

You can’t rush the sales process, you have to nurture it and not disregard the customers who may just be browsing who knows...your attentive patience with them may turn into a sale!

Customer service also involves an extensive amount of product and company knowledge, so be sure that you are well trained and cross trained if necessary.

The installation process can also be a deciding factor between whether they are a repeat customer or simply make a one-time purchase.

Ensure that the installation process is efficient and an overall good experience for your customers.

2. Communication

We live in a social world take advantage of that. You have many outlets to communicate with prospective customers and your current customers via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest etc.

The key is not to use these outlets as a sales pitch but to use them as educational resources.

You can also incorporate video technology to help communicate your installation processes and procedures and display all your offerings.

Listen to your customers' wants and needs and provide them with the most suitable option. For example, if they want lower energy bills and less sunlight, you may suggest a product line of tinted windows and doors. Or, if they live in an HVHZ zone and want more protective and secure windows, you may suggest impact windows and doors, such as our Bertha line.

3. The Showroom

Your showroom’s appeal is extremely important. It’s a shopping experience where you can give customers a real-life visual of how they might integrate your products into their homes.

You should do your best to keep your showroom well organized and clean. Also, consider integrating technology in your showroom, as well as your shopping and checking out experiences.

Another key aspect of a successful window and door dealer is variety; don’t limit your shop to only the most aesthetically pleasing windows and doors. Try adding a hint of variety with ones that benefit your customer in a variety of ways, such as tinted, low-E glass, energy efficient, etc.
