What is Florida Product Approval?

Blueprint of Florida HomeFloridians may not experience harsh winter weather or piles of snow, but Florida does have its fair share of summer heat, heavy rains, hail storms and hurricanes.

Fortunately, there are several measures that the state and local building authorities, such as Florida Building Code, and homeowners can implement to ensure any Florida home is prepared to withstand impending hurricanes, tornadoes and storms, including the products and components you build it with.

Both residential and commercial structures have various building codes and requirements that the product must comply with. Florida Product Approvals are one way to efficiently do just that.

What is Florida Product Approval?

The Florida Product Approval Number is more commonly known and read as The “FL #” and are set, for all construction trades, by the state as a measurement to determine if the product meets state requirements including high velocity hurricane zones, HVHZ.

Just because installations' Florida Product Approvals number meets Florida Building Code, the products may still need to satisfy additional requirements within the city or county.

For example, Dade and Broward counties in Miami have a set of building codes that supersede the Florida Product Approval Numbers.
