Are Your Windows Part of this 2-Year Tax Exemption?

Happy young couple calculating bills at homeWith the cost of living rapidly rising, upgrading your home’s windows and doors may be put on the back burner. However, hurricane season and summer heat do not pause just because the cost of goods has increased.

You should not feel that you have to hold off on ensuring your home will be secure and energy-efficient throughout the year due to a constrained budget. Fortunately, Florida legislators passed a bill on March 14, 2022, that helps make impact windows and doors more affordable during these tough economic times.

How Florida’s HB 7071 Helps Make Impact Windows and Doors Affordable.

The Florida House Bill (HB) 7071 was recently passed in the Senate and signed by Governor Ron DeSantis to provide more than $1.2 billion in tax relief for ten essential goods Florida homeowners and families need, from diapers and fuel to tools and impact-resistant windows and doors.

While the dates vary for each item, impact windows and doors are afforded two years of no sales tax from July 1, 2022, through June 30, 2024. Here is what a few Florida legislators and Governor have had to say about the bill in a Flgov.com article:

“In Florida, we are going to support our residents and help them afford the goods that they need. Florida has been fiscally responsible, so we are in a good position to provide meaningful relief for families, right now.” - Governor Ron DeSantis

“This bill supports growing families, Floridians looking to prepare their homes for severe weather, and the blue collar working men and women of our state who are trying their best to get by amid record-high gas prices and inflation that many of us have not seen in our lifetime. We are increasing the length of sales tax holidays for hurricane season and back-to-school, and also creating new short-term and long-term sales tax relief on key items needed by families.” - Senate President Wilton

“This year’s tax package was truly an effort to benefit every Floridian in some way,” - Representative Bobby Payne

Which Impact-Resistant Windows & Doors Will You Choose?

This tax holiday defines eligible impact-resistant windows and doors as installations that have an impact-resistant rating, are labeled accordingly, and are sold by a retailer.
