The Daily Essentials to Keeping Your Home Sanitized

Woman cleaning the counter in the kitchenWith COVID-19 being a respiratory virus and easily spread by contact with someone who’s infected, it can pose a challenge for keeping your home clean without overdoing it.

How can you keep your home sanitized and clean during this time? The short answer is by cleaning and disinfecting your home daily.

A simple way to differentiate the two is to think of cleaning as dirt removal and disinfecting as killing pathogens.

The CDC defines cleaning and disinfecting as:

“Cleaning refers to the removal of germs, dirt, and impurities from surfaces. Cleaning does not kill germs, but by removing them, it lowers their numbers and the risk of spreading infection.

Disinfecting refers to using chemicals to kill germs on surfaces. This process does not necessarily clean dirty surfaces or remove germs, but by killing germs on a surface after cleaning, it can further lower the risk of spreading infection.”

Should You Clean & Disinfect Every Part of Your Home?

Even if no one in your home is sick, it’s still good to clean and disinfect your home daily. However, this doesn’t mean you have to scrub the floors and tub every day, but you should be focusing on high-touch surfaces, including:

  • Tabletops
  • Chairs
  • Doorknobs
  • Light switches
  • Remotes
  • Handles
  • Cabinetry
  • Desks
  • Laptops
  • Phones
  • Gaming controls
  • Toilets
  • Sinks
