[Tip Sheet] How to Prepare Your Home for an Impending Hurricane

Hurricanes can pack a mean punch when they whip through your town with strong gusts of winds and heavy rains that can flood the roads, surrounding buildings and your home.

If you live in a high-velocity hurricane zone (HVHZ) area, then chances are you understand the severity of a hurricane’s aftermath. There are plenty of ways you can prepare for an upcoming hurricane passing through, such as:

  • Reviewing your homeowner’s insurance policy
  • Purchasing a generator
  • Stocking your pantry with dry goods
  • Buying bags of ice and gallons of water

The aftermath of mother nature, and all her hurricanes is often unpredictable and can change at a moments notice like a shift in wind current, similar to Hurricane Matthew’s path.

You can stock up on all the food and necessities possible, but what happens if your home gets demolished by strong gusts of wind and rain? If one of your windows, doors or even roof gets damaged, the wind can be strong enough to uproot your home or allow for flying debris intrusion.

That’s why we’ve created a quick tip sheet with all the basics to help you prepare your home for an upcoming hurricane.
