Design Trends: What to Expect for Homes in 2021

design trendsHow have you had to reimagine the spaces in your home? Perhaps your dining room is being used as the entertainment hub and your living room is now a virtual school and home office. While every year brings a new trend, this past year has shined a light on how people live in their homes and has helped shape the home design trends we can expect to see in 2021.

Your home should be a space where you can entertain and wind down. But with many people unprepared to accommodate twenty-four-seven living and working at home, the desire for more comfy cozy has never been more prominent. Sustainable materials, elegance, individuality, and uniqueness are consistent elements that are weaved into each of the home design trends we have listed below.

5 Home Design Trends for 2021

No matter how you are re-imagining the spaces in your home this year, these are the top five home design trends you can expect to see in 2021.

#1: A Cozy Cottage Feel

There are two cottage styles, rustic vogue and cottage core, that are going to be highly sought after this year because they can make you feel nestled in while giving you a much-needed boost of comfort.

The rustic vogue cottage style focuses on wood materials, such as paneled walls, exposed beams, and floorboards. While the cottagecore style, on the other hand, is more luxe traditional with pops of glamour.

#2: Color Palettes

Pantone typically sets the color tones for the year, and for 2021 their picks are Illuminating and Ultimate Grey. Both evoke a sense of nature, like the sun or clay, which makes it no surprise that we will also start to see more earthy and grounded shades appear in homes this year.

#3: House Plants

House plants are making a comeback and probably for the best because we could all use a few more deep breaths of oxygen. From tabletop decor to living walls and grounded trees, greenery and florals are here to stay in the home this year.

#4: More Functional Spaces

As previously mentioned, last year a lot of people had to reimagine their spaces and make them work for a variety of purposes—living rooms became offices, kitchens became at home learning centers, etc. This year, rooms will begin to balance out and be designed as multi-functional spaces.

#5: Eco Chic Designs

Caring for the environment is nothing new, but the demand for eco chic designs is steadily increasing especially this year. These designs not only combine trends and the environment but also focus on how the products and materials are produced. From a surface level interior design standpoint, think natural fiber carpet and decorative smart lighting to create the perfect ambiance. If you are building your home from the ground up or making a few renovations, you should consider high-performance window and door solutions that can help reduce energy waste and costs.
